Induction of tetraploids in ornamental Alocasia through colchicine and oryzalin treatments

TL;DR: Variation in the morphological characteristic of leaf shape was found among the multiplied plants under the same growing condition and the most efficient condition for inducing tetraploids seemed to be treatment with 0.01% oryzalin for 24 h.
Book ChapterDOI

Experimental cytology of the shoot apical cells during vegetative growth and flowering.

TL;DR: This chapter focuses on the caulinary meristematic cells, and discusses the histocytological, biochemical, and experimental research that led to clearer conceptions of the origin, structure, function, and development of the apical cells of shoots.
Journal ArticleDOI

Colchicine induced tetraploids in yellow-flowered cyclamens and their characteristics

TL;DR: The petals of the tetraploids were larger and had a greater ability to accumulate chalcone than those of their diploid relatives, and polyploidization may represent a useful method for the commercial breeding of deeper yellow-flowered cyclamen.

Induction of Polyploidy in Chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) by Colchicine

B. P. Pal, +1 more
- 11 Feb 1939 -
TL;DR: The results of experiments so far carried out with colchicine have raised hopes of producing vigorous fertile forms from sterile hybrids and several workers have repeated the experiments of Blakeslee and reported favourably regarding the efficacy of this alkaloid in producing polyploids.
