TLDR
In this paper, the authors used flat glass plates and aluminium rings to generate spherical surfaces with radii of curvature from 3 to 10 m. But the experimentally measured radii and those predicted theoretically differ by a factor of three.Abstract:
Optical quality spherical surfaces have been generated by a technique which involves the differential contraction of two components bonded together at an elevated temperature. Preliminary experiments using flat glass plates and aluminium rings are described. Concave and convex surfaces have been produced with radii of curvature from 3—10 m. A theoretical analysis of the composite structure is given: the experimentally measured radii and those predicted theoretically differ by a factor of three.read more

II Recent Advances in Phase Profiles Generation
J.J. Clair,C.I. Abitbol +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a non-exhaustive review of phase profile generation and phase information processing is presented, with a focus on the utilization of new optical materials capable of producing the desired phase variation.

Theory of plates and shells
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the bending of long RECTANGULAR PLATES to a cycloidal surface, and the resulting deformation of shels without bending the plates.

New procedure for making Schmidt corrector plates.
TL;DR: The dioptric elasticity method of making Schmidt plates is described, which produces more highly aspherical surfaces (F/1) and is more convenient than the method attempted by Schmidt.
