TL;DR: In this article, a real price index is created for whole life insurance sold in the United States from 1953 to 1979, and it is shown that new purchases of whole-life insurance are negatively related to changes in this cost index, contrary to what has been widely accepted in the insurance literature.

An exploratory investigation of how cultural attitudes relate to life insurance holdings: A cross-cultural comparison

TL;DR: This article investigated how cultural attitudes related to life insurance differences between two cultural groups: 331 male Canadians from Winnipeg, Manitoba and 291 male Americans from Grand Forks, North Dakota, and found that cultural attitudes bore the same functional relationship to per capita dollars of life insurance holdings in both subject groups.
