TLDR
Because the quality of the suicidal ideation in this syndrome differs from the usual indicators of suicidal intent, physicians should be alert to early symptoms of the syndrome and take measures to protect the patient against suicidal impulses.Abstract:
The authors report on six patients with diazepam (Valium) toxicity. All showed symptoms of tremulousness, apprehension, insomnia, depression, and (later) ego-alien suicidal ideation. None had a history of previous psychiatric disorder, and all were taking greater than the maximum recommended dose of diazepam. Because the quality of the suicidal ideation in this syndrome differs from the usual indicators of suicidal intent, physicians should be alert to early symptoms of the syndrome and take measures to protect the patient against suicidal impulses.read more

Hypnotics and sedatives
TL;DR: Patients with a history of exclusive dependence on sedatives were compared to matched controls on a battery of psychologic tests: scores on a synonyms test were similar in the two groups but on tests of memory and verbal learning the experimental group's scores were significantly lower.

Effects of SSRIs on sexual function: a critical review.
TL;DR: The effects of SSRIs on sexual functioning seem strongly dose-related and may vary among the group according to serotonin and dopamine reuptake mechanisms, induction of prolactin release, anticholinergic effects, inhibition of nitric oxide synthetase, and propensity for accumulation over time.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors in affective disorders--I. Basic pharmacology.
TL;DR: There are important clinical differences among the SSRIs in their pharmacokinetic characteristics including differences in their half-lives, linear versus non-linear pharmacokinetics, effect of age on their clearance and their potential to inhibit drug metabolising cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoenzymes.

Antidepressant drugs and the emergence of suicidal tendencies
TL;DR: Data clearly demonstrate that antidepressants ameliorate suicidal ideation more effectively than placebo in patients with depression, and observations suggest that antidepressants may redistribute suicide risk, attenuating risk in some patients who respond well, while possibly enhancing risk in others who respond more poorly.

Paradoxical reactions to benzodiazepines.
R. C. W. Hall,Sidney Zisook +1 more
TL;DR: The overall incidence of paradoxical responses to the benzodiazepines is extremely small, but a few controlled studies have been carried out and such reactions tend to be idiosyncratic except possibly in patients with pre-rage personality.
