Accelerometer and rate gyroscope measurement of kinematics: an inexpensive alternative to optical motion analysis systems.

TLDR
In this paper, a general-purpose system to obtain the kinematics of gait in the sagittal plane based on body-mounted sensors was developed, consisting of four uniaxial seismic accelerometers and one rate gyroscope per body segment.

Measuring orientation of human body segments using miniature gyroscopes and accelerometers

TL;DR: A method for accurate measurement of the orientation of human body segments using an inertial measurement unit (IMU) using a Kalman filter and it was shown that the gyroscope offset could be estimated continuously during a trial.

Measurement of lower extremity kinematics during level walking

TL;DR: The relatively small number of body surface markers used in the VICON system render it easy to implement for use in routine clinical gait evaluations and should be a useful reference for describing and comparing pathologic gait patterns.

Repeatability of kinematic, kinetic, and electromyographic data in normal adult gait.

TL;DR: The results demonstrate that with the subjects walking at their natural or preferred spped, the gait variables are quite repeatable, and suggest that it may be reasonable to base significant clinical decisions on the results of a single gait evaluation.

A New Mathematical Formulation for Strapdown Inertial Navigation

TL;DR: In this article, a differential equation for the orientation vector relating the body frame to a chosen reference frame is developed, where the time derivative of this vector is the sum of the inertially measurable angular velocity vector and non-measurable non-commutativity rate vector.
