Viral hepatitis is an uncommon complication of pregnancy, and the incidence of renal failure in pregnancy is also quite low. The simultaneous association of both of these conditions with pregnancy is extremely rare, only one such case having been reported 1 in recent years. Recently we treated a pregnant woman who had hepatitis and renal failure and appeared to be in terminal illness; her recovery was complete. We believe that the unusual nature of this patient's illness and the successful use of hemodialysis in her treatment are of medical interest. Patient Summary A 26-year-old white housewife, gravida 3, para 2, in the ninth month of pregnancy was admitted to a hospital on July 11, 1965, because of nausea, emesis, and jaundice. For two months before admission, she had experienced intermittent generalized pruritis occurring only at night.
