TLDR
In this article, the authors consider the performance of a stabilizing causal controller for a causal nominal plant G (possibly time varying), with controller augmentations including an adaptive stable subsystem Q. The objective is to search on-line in terms of Q and state space descriptions of G, Ko.

On self tuning regulators

TL;DR: In this paper, the problem of controlling a system with constant but unknown parameters is considered and an algorithm obtained by combining a least squares estimator with a minimum variance regulator computed from the estimated model is analyzed.

Stabilizability and stable-proper factorizations for linear time-varying systems

TL;DR: In this paper, stable-proper factorizations for linear-time-varying discrete-time systems are studied and a complete characterization of stable-performers for linear time-vanging input/output operators is given.

On Time-Varying Control

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify time-varying control as a viable and practical alternative to the "fixed versus adaptive control" dilemma, and they provide for the first time: a. Doubly-coprime and inner-outer factorizations for linear time varying (LTV) systems with finite-dimensional uniform realizations; b. Conditions under which linear and nonlinear time changing control laws achieve the same quality of control for LTV plants.
