Analysis of plane-strain neck propagation in viscoplastic polymeric films

TLDR
In this paper, the influence of material strain-rate sensitivity on neck propagation during the cold drawing of polymeric films is examined and the entire load-deformation behaviour of a rectangular specimen as well as the evolution of the specimen profile and the stress and strain distributions at various stages of the deformation process are computed.

In-plane crushing of a polycarbonate honeycomb

TL;DR: In this paper, the in-plane compressive response and crushing of a polycarbonate honeycomb with circular close-packed cells is studied through combined experimental and analytical efforts, which is characterized by a relatively sharp rise to a load maximum followed by a drop down to an extended load plateau which is then terminated by a sharp rise in load.

Prediction of deformation behavior of glassy polymers based on molecular chain network model

TL;DR: In this paper, a constitutive equation for polymeric materials covering a wide class of deformation processes was developed by adopting the non-Gaussian network theory with the generalized Argon double-kink model of intermolecular resistance.

Evolution of strain localization in glassy polymers: A numerical study

TL;DR: In this article, an explicit numerical implementation is described, for a constitutive model of glassy polymers, previously proposed and validated, to simulate spontaneous strain localization (necking) occurring during extension of a prismatic bar of a typical glassy polymer.

On the application of FEM to deformation of high-density polyethylene

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used finite element method (FEM) to simulate deformation behavior of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) when subjected to tensile loading, either without or with the presence of pre-cracks.

Influence of strain-rate sensitivity on necking under uniaxial tension

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of material strain-rate dependence on necking retardation is studied and a nonlinear analysis for long-wavelength nonuniformities does reproduce the essential details of the phenomenon.

Plane strain neck propagation

TL;DR: In this paper, a quasi-static neck propagation in polymers is studied for the case of plane strain tension, and a finite element solution characterizes the complete development of a neck in an initially smooth specimen.
