The physical basis of glacier volume-area scaling

TL;DR: In this paper, a scaling analysis of the mass and momentum conservation equations shows that glacier volumes can be related by a power law to more easily observed glacier surface areas, and that reasonable closures predict a volume-area scaling exponent which is consistent with observations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mathematical principles of reinforcement

TL;DR: In this article, the authors use the slopes of learning curves to infer which response comes closest to the organism's definition of the response, and the resulting exponentially weighted moving average provides a model of memory that is used to ground a quantitative theory of reinforcement, where incentives excite behavior and focus the excitement on responses that are contemporaneous in memory.
Journal ArticleDOI

Granular avalanches across irregular three‐dimensional terrain: 2. Experimental tests

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used laser-assisted cartography to map the 3D morphology of rapidly moving granular avalanches, thereby providing high-resolution data for comparison with model output.
Journal ArticleDOI

Simplified equations for the interaction of nearly parallel vortex filaments

TL;DR: In this article, simplified asymptotic equations for the interaction of nearly parallel vortex filaments are derived and analyzed. But they neglect other non-local effects of self-stretching and mutual induction.

Introduction to Partial Differential Equations: A Computational Approach

TL;DR: In this article, the two-point boundary value problems and the Heat Equation were discussed, as well as the convergence of the Fourier Transform and reaction-diffusion Equations.
