TLDR
A review of 134 publications that report experimental investigations of emotional effects on peripheral physiological responding in healthy individuals suggests considerable ANS response specificity in emotion when considering subtypes of distinct emotions.

Journal ArticleDOI

The calming effect of a new wearable device during the anticipation of public speech.

TL;DR: The presence, as opposed to its absence, of a slow rhythm, which in the present study was instantiated as an auxiliary slow heartbeat delivered through doppel, had a significant calming effect on physiological arousal and subjective experience during a socially stressful situation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Regulating sadness and fear from outside and within: mothers' emotion socialization and adolescents' parasympathetic regulation predict the development of internalizing difficulties.

TL;DR: RSA suppression to sadness versus fear might reflect different patterns of atypical parasympathetic regulation of emotional arousal, both of which increase the risk for internalizing difficulties in youths, and especially girls, who lack maternal support for regulating emotions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cross-cultural effects of food product familiarity on sensory acceptability and non-invasive physiological responses of consumers.

TL;DR: It was showed that familiarity of food products was positively associated to sensory liking for both cultural groups and these findings are useful to understand consumers acceptability based on both sensory and physiological responses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Marital conflict, respiratory sinus arrhythmia, and allostatic load: Interrelations and associations with the development of children's externalizing behavior

TL;DR: Initial parental marital conflict and its change over time indexed children's exposure to an important familial stressor, which was examined in interaction with children's respiratory sinus arrhythmia reactivity to laboratory tasks to predict children's basal levels of RSA over time.
Journal ArticleDOI

Facial emotion recognition deficits following moderate-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI): Re-examining the valence effect and the role of emotion intensity

TL;DR: The results suggest that conventional measures of facial affect recognition that do not examine variance in the difficulty of emotions may produce erroneous conclusions about differential impairment, and cast doubt on the notion that dissociable neural pathways underlie the recognition of positive and negative emotions, which are differentially affected by TBI and potentially other neurological or psychiatric disorders.

The Principles of Psychology

William James
TL;DR: For instance, the authors discusses the multiplicity of the consciousness of self in the form of the stream of thought and the perception of space in the human brain, which is the basis for our work.

The Feeling of What Happens: Body and Emotion in the Making of Consciousness

TL;DR: The Feeling of What Happens as mentioned in this paper is a theory of the nature of consciousness and the construction of the self, which is the feeling of what happens-our mind noticing the body's reaction to the world and responding to that experience.
Journal ArticleDOI

Précis of The Neuropsychology of Anxiety: An Enquiry into the Functions of the Septo-Hippocampal System..

TL;DR: It is proposed that these drugs reduce anxiety by impairing the functioning of a widespread neural system including the septo-hippocampal system (SHS), the Papez circuit, the prefrontal cortex, and ascending monoaminergic and cholinergic pathways which innervate these forebrain structures.
