Biaxial cyclic deformation behaviour of steels

TLDR
In this article, the cyclic stress-strain curves for 1% Cr-Mo-V steel and AISI 316 stainless steel were determined under biaxial loading conditions at various temperatures and strain rates.
Abstract
— The cyclic stress-strain curves for 1% Cr-Mo-V steel and AISI 316 stainless steel were determined under biaxial loading conditions at various temperatures and strain rates. It is shown that these curves may be correlated in terms of the maximum shear stress and strain amplitudes. It is argued that, even though metals obey the von Mises yield criterion for monotonie loading, the micromechanisms of slip which produce the stabilized cyclic stress-strain behaviour are governed by the Tresca criterion.

The short crack problem

TL;DR: The problem associated with short crack growth, defined as situations in which the intensity of the crack tip field is underestimated by linear elastic fracture mechanics analyses, is briefly reviewed in this paper.

CYCLIC DEFORMATION OF 1% Cr‐Mo‐V STEEL UNDER OUT‐OF‐PHASE LOADS

TL;DR: In this paper, the stable cyclic stress strain response of 1% Cr Mo V steel has been studied for combined axial and torsional loads, where the respective sinusoidal strains were applied both in and out of phase.

Effects of strain path shapes on non-proportional cyclic plasticity

TL;DR: A series of plastic strain controlled cyclic tests was performed by applying combined axial force and torque to thin-walled tubular specimens of Type 316 stainless steel at room temperature as discussed by the authors.

Mechanical and microstructural investigations of an austenitic stainless steel under non-proportional loadings in tension–torsion-internal and external pressure

TL;DR: In this article, the experimental behavior of a 316 stainless steel at room temperature and under non-proportional cyclic and ratchet strainings in tension-torsion-internal and external pressures was investigated.

Short fatigue crack behaviour and analytical models: a review

TL;DR: In this article, a number of modifications to LEFM and new models have been introduced to correlate the behavior of long and short fatigue cracks, and the critical view of the modifications and some of the models proposed for the analysis of short-fraction cracks.

A Theory for Fatigue Failure under Multiaxial Stress-Strain Conditions

TL;DR: In this article, a new theory for multiaxial fatigue is presented that is based on a physical interpretation of the mechanisms of fatigue crack growth, represented graphically by contours of constant life, which are expressed mathematically bywhere e1, e2 and e3 are the principal strains, •e1 ≥ e2 ≥ e3.
