TLDR
In this paper, the authors focus on the charge accumulation and movement in an transformer-oil-impregnated pressboard under DC polarity reversal at 60/spl deg/C. Using a pressure wave propagation (PWP) technique, the distribution of space charge in the sample was measured both at stationary and transient conditions.
Abstract
Space charge plays an important role in the breakdown and conduction processes of a high voltage direct current (HVDC) insulation system. Electrical breakdown due to charge accumulation in transformer oil and pressboard can cause failures of power transformers, especially at DC polarity reversal. In this paper, we focus our attention on the charge accumulation and movement in an transformer-oil-impregnated pressboard under DC polarity reversal at 60/spl deg/C. Using a pressure wave propagation (PWP) technique, the distribution of space charge in the sample was measured both at stationary and transient conditions.

Electrical field distribution in transformer oil

TL;DR: In this paper, the electric field distribution in transformer oil has been studied at service stress levels in both the transient and steady state, and the field distributions observed are well described by a one-dimensional quantitative model based on charge carrier generation through dissociation of a species of ion pairs.

Evolution of Experimental Techniques for the Study of the Electrical Properties of Insulating Materials

TL;DR: A very elegant technique to generate this pressure wave involves the use of a short-duration laser pulse as discussed by the authors, which acts as a virtual probe sensitive to charge, field or potential.
