Coding unconstrained FCB excitation using combinatorial and Huffman codes

TLDR
A method for coding "unconstrained" fixed codebook (FCB) excitation for ACELP speech coders and it is proposed that the unconstrained FCB does not place track-based constraint on the pulse positions.
Abstract
A method for coding "unconstrained" fixed codebook (FCB) excitation for ACELP speech coders is proposed. The unconstrained FCB does not place track-based constraint on the pulse positions. The coding method combines Huffman codes and combinatorial codes. The method is less sensitive to bit errors and is nearly as efficient as the combinatorial codes. A method for efficiently storing the parameters needed in the combinatorial codebook is also proposed.

Low Complexity Factorial Pulse Coding of MDCT Coefficients using Approximation of Combinatorial Functions

TL;DR: A very low complexity method for approximation of combinatorial functions is proposed which enables use of factorial packing in encoding/decoding of 144 MDCT coefficients using 28 unit magnitude pulses for the audio coding mode of the EVRC-WB speech coding standard without affecting the number of bits required for coding.

Low-complexity bit-robust method and system for combining codewords to form a single codeword

TL;DR: In this paper, a system for combining codewords is described, which can include a splitter for splitting a first codeword into a most significant bits part MSP (112 ) and a least significant bit part LSP (114 ), a combiner for combining the MSP and LSP of the first word with a second word, and a concatenator for concatenating the first group with the LSP to produce a second group.

Apparatus and method for low complexity combinatorial coding of signals

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used low complexity estimates of complex functions to perform combinatorial coding of signal vectors and disregarded the accuracy of such functions as long as certain sufficient properties are maintained.

A pyramid vector quantizer

TL;DR: Although suboptimum in a rate-distortion sense, because the PVQ can encode large-dimensional vectors, it offers significant reduction in rose distortion compared with the optimum Lloyd-Max scalar quantizer, and provides an attractive alternative to currently available vector quantizers.

Wideband coding of speech using a scalable pulse codebook

TL;DR: Preliminary subjective test results indicate that the CELP technique provides very high quality speech that meets or exceeds all requirements for both the ETSI/3GPP and ITU-T wideband speech standardization efforts.
