Confirmation of the shears mechanism in near spherical tin nuclei

TLDR
In this paper, the lifetime of a magnetic dipole band in each of the nuclei was obtained using the Doppler shift attenuation method, and the deduced B(M1) transition rates showed the characteristic behavior associated with the shears mechanism.
Abstract
Lifetimes of states of a magnetic dipole band in each of the nuclei {sup 106,108}Sn have been obtained using the Doppler shift attenuation method. The deduced B(M1) transition rates show the characteristic behavior associated with the shears mechanism. A simplified semiclassical analysis yields B(M1) values in qualitative agreement with those expected for previously assigned configurations. The results suggest extremely low deformations for these dipole structures. In particular, the {sup 106}Sn band appears to be the first example of almost pure magnetic rotation in a spherical nucleus. {copyright} {ital 1999} {ital The American Physical Society }

Spontaneous symmetry breaking in rotating nuclei

TL;DR: In this article, the concept of spontaneous symmetry breaking is applied to the rotating mean field of nuclei, which is based on the tilted-axis cranking model, taking into account that the rotational axis can take any orientation with respect to the deformed density distribution.

Progress on tilted axis cranking covariant density functional theory for nuclear magnetic and antimagnetic rotation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors mainly focus on the tilted axis cranking covariant density functional theory and its application for the magnetic rotation and antimagnetic rotation phenomena, including the binding energies, radii, single-particle spectra, resonance states, magnetic moments, magnetic rotation, low-lying excitations, shape phase transitions, collective rotation and vibrations.

The shears mechanism in nuclei

TL;DR: This chapter reviews the experimental properties of shears bands and finds the most puzzling characteristic of these structures is the emergence of rotational-like behavior while the nucleus retiral behavior is unknown.

Description of multi-quasiparticle bands by the tilted axis cranking model

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors extended the self-consistent cranking approach to the case of rotation about an axis which is tilted with respect to the principal axes of the deformed potential (Tilted Axis Cranking).

The structure of 100Sn and neighbouring nuclei

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the nuclear structure in the 100Sn region is presented, where the status of theoretical approaches in shell model and mean field investigations is described and their predictive power assessed.
