Controlled susceptibility plugs

TLDR
In this paper, the magnetic susceptibility of materials can be tailored to achieve a desired value to suppress magnetic perturbation without introducing extraneous signals, where the sample is rotated along an axis transverse to the field.
Abstract
It is desired to promote magnetic homogeneity of materials, including structural elements, present in the sensitive volume of a gyromagnetic analysis apparatus. Where the sample is rotated along an axis transverse to the field the requirement reduces to establishing axial homogeneity. Plugs which match the solvent magnetic susceptibility are employed to constrain a sample within the central region of an RF probe coil thereby appearing relatively invisible in the magnetic sense to the instrument. The susceptibility of materials can be tailored to achieve a desired value to suppress magnetic perturbation without introducing extraneous signals.

Long the sample cavity resonator structure for an epr spectrometer employing dielectric material for improving rf electric and magnetic field uniformity a

James S. Hyde
TL;DR: In an electron paramagnetic resonance cavity resonator having a line sample therein, a dielectric material positioned near the sample and along at least a portion of its length, and extending into the RF electric field region near a sample, changes the gradient of the electric field intensity and, as a result, the RF magnetic field intensity along the line sample so as to make both the electric and magnetic field intensities more uniform along as discussed by the authors.
