Correlations between heterospermic fertility and assays of porcine semen quality before and after cryopreservation.

TLDR
The relative fertilizing potential of frozen-thawed semen from four black and four white boars was determined following heterospermic insemination and a high correlation indicated that the fertilization potential of the semen could be accurately predicted with four variables that appeared to measure different properties of the spermatozoa.

Basic aspects of frozen storage of semen

TL;DR: The possible roles of cryoprotectants and additives are considered in the context of their putative interactions with the sperm plasma membrane and modern approaches to the laboratory assessment of spermatozoa after freeze-thawing are discussed.

Laboratory semen assessment and prediction of fertility: still utopia?

TL;DR: Strategies for the discovery of in vitro predictors of semen fertility require evaluations of low sperm doses for AI, so that differences in innate in vivo fertility can be accurately detected.

Sperm factors related to in vitro and in vivo porcine fertility

Joaquín Gadea
- 15 Jan 2005 -
TL;DR: The study of the relationship between sperm factors and in vitro fertility may be a good strategy and assays that include a study of gamete interaction may lead to a better way to predict male fertility than the routine laboratory evaluation of semen.
Journal ArticleDOI

The importance of porcine sperm parameters on fertility in vivo.

TL;DR: Sperm motility is a useful indicator of sperm fertilization capacity in vivo and it is critical that the number of spermatozoa used during insemination is sufficiently low to detect differences in sperm fertilizing efficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI

Regression analyses and motile sperm subpopulation structure study as improving tools in boar semen quality analysis.

TL;DR: The belief that the predictive use of the results obtained in a standard boar semen quality analysis can reasonably be achieved by applying logistic correlation analyses among several function parameters of boar spermatozoa analysis and in vivo conception rates obtained after artificial insemination is supported.

The effect of ratios and numbers of spermatozoa mixed from two males on proportions of offspring

TL;DR: It appears that the relationship between sperm ratios and the proportions of offspring sired by two males competing heterospermically is dependent on the ratio of the number of competing spermatozoa but not on total number, season, breed of hen or the interval from insemination to fertilization.

The relationship between semen evaluation methods and fertility in the bull.

TL;DR: The results reveal the inadequacy of the laboratory tests used as methods of predicting the fertility of semen samples but show that limits may be set outside which poor semen samples could be discarded.

Inhibition of in Vitro Fertilization of Rabbit Ova by Trypsin Inhibitors

TL;DR: It is indicated that the acrosomal enzyme is the essential enzyme for penetration of the zona pellicida of the rabbit ovum and inhibition of in vitro fertilization.
