Sticky Particles and Scalar Conservation Laws

TL;DR: One-dimensional scalar conservation laws with nondecreasing initial conditions and general fluxes were shown to be the appropriate equations to describe large systems of free particles on the real line, which stick under collision with conservation of mass and momentum as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

New ideas for proving convergence of decomposition methods

TL;DR: In this article, the authors give new formulae which calculate easily the Adomian's polynomials used in decomposition methods, and prove the convergence of the technique using a weak hypothesis on the nonlinear operator of the functional equation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Injectivity and self-contact in nonlinear elasticity

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the associated minimization problem provides a mathematical model for matter to come into frictionless contact with itself but not interpenetrate, and they also extend J. Ball's theorems on existence to this case by establishing the existence of a minimizer of the energy in the space W1,p(Ω;ℝ3), p > 3, that is injective almost everywhere.

Coupling of eigenvalues of complex matrices at diabolic and exceptional points

TL;DR: In this article, a general theory of coupling of eigenvalues of complex matrices of an arbitrary dimension depending on real parameters is presented and the cases of weak and strong coupling are distinguished and their geometric interpretation in two and threedimensional spaces is given.
