Prediction of thermodynamic properties of polymer solutions using the UNIFAC group-contribution method

TL;DR: In this article, the UNIFAC group-contribution method has been applied to solutions of polydimethylsiloxane in a number of solvents, and the predicted Flory-Huggins interaction parameters are not in good agreement with experimental values and predicted variation with molecular weight is the opposite to that measured.
Journal ArticleDOI

Entropy of mixing of polymer and solvent as derived from the free-volume concept

TL;DR: In this paper, a theory for the entropy of mixing of polymer and solvent is proposed, which is an extension of Hildebrand's derivation of the Flory-Huggins combinatorial entropy by use of free-volume concepts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enthalpy of mixing for polymer solutions based on Gibbs excess function limit of hard spheres mixtures

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a new polymer/solvent theory based on the excess Gibbs function limit of hard sphere mixtures with infinite size difference, which is able to produce the enthalpy of mixing in the whole concentration range of polymer compared with Flory-Huggins theory.
