This study analyzes the process of industrial deconcentration in Brazil in the recent last years, specifically between 1996 and 2010. Historically, Sao Paulo was the state that presented the greatest concentration, as well its capital and metropolitan region. Its pinnacle of concentration happened in 1970s and since then it began to deconcentrate. This study’s results show that it continues to deconcentrate, slowly, however. The capital of the state of Sao Paulo and its metropolitan area are the places where the deconcentration process is more intense in comparison with other cities. The data also show that the deconcentration process is concentrated, which means that only medium-sized cities increased their industrial production.read more

But no difference of effect was observed in the variation of these variables between the municipalities that experienced the recession and those where there was economic growth.
