TLDR
13 of the 14 bleeding patients showed not only pressor responses and haemodynamic and clinical improvement when administering doses of 20–100 µg/kg, but clear signs of standstill of upper gastrointestinal bleeding.
Abstract

Comparison of vasopressin and triglycyl-lysine vasopressin on splanchnic and systemic hemodynamics in dogs.

TL;DR: While tGLVP increased HAF 34±11%, the physiologic autoregulatory response to a decrease in portal venous flow and pressure; vasopressin was associated with no such compensatory response (1±6%).

Action of the triglycyl hormonogen of vasopressin (glypressin) in patients with liver cirrhosis and bleeding esophageal varices.

TL;DR: Seven patients with compensated liver cirrhosis and esophageal varices, all with a base line wedge hepatic vein pressure greater than 20 cm H2O, received 1-mg doses of vasopressin hormonogen intravenously, and there was a significant mean decrease in wedge pressure, which lasted for at least 20 min, with no change in cardiac output measured.

Hemodynamic changes of systemic, hepatic, and splenic circulation following triglycyl-lysin-vasopressin administration in alcoholic cirrhosis.

TL;DR: In patients with alcoholic cirrhosis, triglycyl-lysin-vasopressin decreases portal pressure as well as hepatic and splenic blood flows, and a significant correlation was found between the decrease in hepatic venous pressure gradient and insplenic blood flow.

Review: Clinical Opportunities Provided by the Nasal Administration of Peptides

TL;DR: The future potential for this route lies in development of effective and well tolerated formulations in highly accurate delivery systems for the chronic administration of peptides, enabling the replacement of impractical and invasive intravenous injections in patients on lifelong substitution treatment for various deficiency states.

Effects of lysine vasopressin and glypressin on the fibrinolytic system in cirrhosis.

TL;DR: In eight patients with cirrhosis of the liver and portal hypertension an intravenous infusion of lysine vasopressin induced a rapid increase in the plasma level of the fibrinolytic proenzyme plasminogen activator, but GVP, in a dose known to lower portal venous pressure, produced no fibralelytic response.

Effect of intravenously administered posterior pituitary extract on hemorrhage from bleeding esophageal varices. A controlled evaluation.

TL;DR: A controlled study of pituitary extract in patients with cirrhosis and the effects of both esophageal balloon tamponade and emergency surgery in these patients have inherent dangers and are not always effective.

TL;DR: On the basis of generally accepted principles governing its use, no contraindication to the use of the drug was evident in these cases and two cardiac accidents following vasopressin injection during cholecystography were observed.
