A Generalized Utility Model with Binding Non-Negativity Constraints: Demand for Beer

TL;DR: In this article, a Generalized Quadratic Utility (GQU) model is proposed for an incomplete demand system with binding non-negativity constraints which is flexible in income and price effects.
Journal ArticleDOI

Benefit Formation and Enhancement

TL;DR: A model to identify benefit-forming attributes is developed and applied to three conjoint datasets where it provides evidence of their interactive effects on preferences and counter-factual exercises across three datasets highlight the importance of benefit-form attributes in product design as well as in preference segments.
Journal ArticleDOI

Estimation of consumer welfare change from the revision of age criterion for BSE testing: hypothetical revealed preference method using monitoring survey data.

TL;DR: In this paper, the BSE testing age criterion for cattle is revised from all months to older than 21 months, by analyzing the change in meat demand due to this revision, and the expected compensating variation per household per month was 214 yen at the sample mean and 55 yen at a sample median.

Forecasting U.S. State-Level Carbon Dioxide Emissions

TL;DR: This article explored the use of spatial models in forecasting U.S. state-level carbon dioxide emissions and found that a non-spatial OLS estimator performs best in all out-of-sample forecasts; however, the OLS model is not statistically distinguishable from a spatial panel data model with random effects.

Sample Selection Bias as a Specification Error

James J. Heckman
- 01 Jan 1979 -
TL;DR: In this article, the bias that results from using non-randomly selected samples to estimate behavioral relationships as an ordinary specification error or "omitted variables" bias is discussed, and the asymptotic distribution of the estimator is derived.

Modeling the choice of residential location

TL;DR: The problem of translating the theory of economic choice behavior into concrete models suitable for analyzing housing location and methods for controlling the size of data collection and estimation tasks by sampling alternatives from the full set of alternatives are discussed.

An Econometric Analysis of Residential Electric Appliance Holdings and Consumption

Jeffrey A. Dubin, +1 more
- 01 Mar 1984 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a subsample of the 1975 survey of 3249 households carried out by the Washington Center for Metropolitan Studies (WCMS) for the Federal Energy Administration for the purpose of testing the statistical exogeneity of appliance dummy variables typically included in demand for electricity equations.

Urban travel demand - a behavioral analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors integrate economic concepts of supply and demand equilibrium for urban activities using the concept of traffic equilibrium within transportation networks and describe the cutting edge in travel demand analysis using the latest methods.
