TLDR
The results indicate that consideration of the growth stage of organs and tissues is necessary for understanding the bioaccumulation processes and the toxicological criteria of the metals.

Uptake, elimination and toxicity of an arsenic-based pesticide in an avian system

TL;DR: Zebra Finches showed dose-dependent trends in accumulation of arsenic in the blood and specific tissues, and weight loss occurred in adults in the two highest dose groups, which suggests high sensitivity to this pesticide in early life stages.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mercury in white stork (Ciconia ciconia) chick feathers from northeastern Mediterranean areas in relation to age, brood size, and hatching order.

TL;DR: Mercury (Hg) levels in white stork feathers collected in the mid-1990s from five northeastern Mediterranean (Greece) areas varied, with mean ranges between 301 ng g−1 dry weight (dw) (Pinios River) and 1911 ng–1 dw (Sperchios Delta), which were lower than those associated with intoxication to other ciconiiform species.

Concentrations of trace elements in livers of the Great Egret ( Ardea alba ) from the metropolitan region of São Paulo, SP, Brazil

TL;DR: Comparisons made between the results with literature data indicated that element concentrations obtained for herons from metropolitan region of São Paulo are higher or at the same order of magnitude of those obtained for specimens from polluted areas.
Journal ArticleDOI

A modified index for lead in biological monitoring

TL;DR: In this article, a new index was established for cadmium in previous reports, which can be used to determine the Pb pollution status of animals and may be useful for biological monitoring.

Heavy Metal Concentrations in Muscle, Liver and Kidney Tissue of Striped Dolphin, Stenella coeruleoalba, and Their Variations with Body Length, Weight, Age and Sex

TL;DR: In this article, the concentrations of Fe, mn, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Cd and Hg in the muscle, liver and kidney of fifty nine striped dolphins captured during 1977 ~ 1980 were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metal contamination of feral pigeons Columba livia from the London area: Part 1—tissue accumulation of lead, cadmium and zinc

TL;DR: It is suggested that the feral pigeon may be used both to monitor urban lead contamination and as a model for chronic lead toxicity, in relation to the possible antagonistic role of zinc.
