Abstract
This paper deals with the dynamic stability of long distance a.c. transmission systems operating at above 1 surge impedance loading and compensated entirely by automatically controlled shunt inductance device referred to as Static Compensators. Generalised system equations in the form X = AX, with a careful choice of state variables are developed via the subsystem concept and the eigenvalue technique used to establish the stability limits. The static compensator and the excitation system control parameters are chosen in a coordinated manner from the stability limit plots, the extension of stability limits with a Static Compensator are quantised, later a second compensator is included for improving the system performance and interaction studies.

Static Compensator Loss Estimation from Digital Measurement of Voltages and Currents

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors deal with a procedure for direct measurement of the active power dissipated by the reactor arm of a static compensator in operation and examine the precision of the loss measurement as influenced by the distorsion of the waveform, sampling rate of the data acquisition system, the phase errors introduced by the current and voltage interfaces and the analog-to-digital conversion.

A static var compensator control strategy to maximize power system damping

TL;DR: In this article, a study of power system transient stability enhancement through effective use of static VAR compensator is presented, where an optimal theoretical control strategy is derived from direct Lyapunov method for multi-machine system model as a control which forces the fastest dissipation of energy released in the system by a given fault.
