Effect of grain network modifications due to additives on critical current (Ic) in Bi-2212 superconductor

TLDR
In this paper, the effect of additives (Ag, Ag2O and BaBiO3) on the weak link behavior of Bi-2212 in bulk form was investigated and it was observed that the addition of silver (Ag) metal powder improves the connectivity between the grains by proximity effect and thereby enhances the current carrying capability at temperatures very close to Tc De Gennes and Clarke models.
Abstract
The presence of weak links in high-Tc superconductors is a major drawback in achieving high critical current densities The present study deals with the effect of additives (Ag, Ag2O and BaBiO3) on the weak link behaviour of Bi-2212 in bulk form It is observed that the addition of silver (Ag) metal powder improves the connectivity between the grains by proximity-effect and thereby enhances the current carrying capability at temperatures very close to Tc De Gennes and Clarke models have been invoked to establish that Bi-2212 containing insulating additives (BaBiO3 and Ag2O) show a superconductor–insulator–superconductor (S–I–S) type grain network and thereby enhance the weak link behaviour, whereas metallic Ag addition shows a superconductor–normal metal–superconductor (S–N–S) behaviour and is, therefore, a potential candidate for large scale applications Further support to this data is obtained from ac susceptibility studies carried out at different magnetic field strengths (01–40 Oe)

Josephson Junction Model of Critical Current in Granular Y1Ba2Cu3O7-δ

TL;DR: In this paper, the transport critical-current density in a granular superconductor in magnetic fields below about 5 x 10/sup -3/T was calculated, and it was shown that Josephson junctions are limiting transport critical current in these samples and that they lie at the grain boundaries.

Dynamics of xenon, krypton, and methane monolayers in registry with graphite.

TL;DR: The self-consistent phonon (SCP) theory is used to study the dynamics of monolayers of xenon, krypton, and methane adsorbed on graphite and it is shown that the phonon energies of the Xemonolayers are very similar to those of their floating counterparts, while the interaction of the Kr and CH/sub 4/ monolayer with the graphite significantly affects the phon on dispersion curves.

Preparation of pure 80 K superconductors in the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu oxide system

TL;DR: In this article, the formation of the pure superconductor strongly depended on the Bi content and Ca/Sr ratio and it was found that formation of a pure superconducting material strongly depends on Bi content.

Thermal cycling and critical current density of BSCCO/Ag-sheathed wire and tape

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of thermal cycling between 4.3 K and 298 K within a He atmosphere, and ambient magnetic field, on the J/sub c/ of a Bi-2223/Ag-sheathed monocore tape and two bi-2212/Ag -sheathed multifilament wire straight samples was studied.
