Effect of hydraulic gradient on swell and hydraulic response of desiccated expansive soil–an experimental study

TLDR
In this article, the authors investigated the effect of initial hydraulic response during the initial stage of wetting in compacted clay liners and found that the cracks in liners act as preferential flow paths and affect the hydraulic response.

Effect of Remoulding Water Content on Hydraulic Response of a Compacted Expansive Soil

TL;DR: In this article , the effect of remoulding water content on the infiltration rates during swelling process and hydraulic conductivity at the end of swelling process of a compacted expansive soil was brought out.

Study on Crack Development in Red Clay from Guangxi Guilin with Different Clay Grain Content

Bo Liu, +2 more
- 13 Oct 2022 -
TL;DR: In order to study the influence of different clay contents on the fractality of red clay, specimens having four different water contents were prepared as discussed by the authors , and the cracking characteristics of the specimens were observed at 20 °C and 60 °C. Image J software was used to measure and calculate the crack area, crack ratio, crack length and width of each sample.

Water infiltration rate in cracked paddy soil

TL;DR: In this article, a laboratory soil column experiment was performed to identify the parameters that control the infiltration of water in a cracked paddy field and various variables, including soil texture, flooded water depth, fracture apertures, cultivation practices and water suspended particles were investigated to quantify their influence on the infiltration curves and the closure mechanism of a fractured plough pan.

Three-dimensional characterization of desiccation cracking behavior of compacted clayey soil using X-ray computed tomography

TL;DR: In this paper, a non-invasive approach integrating X-ray computed tomography (CT) and digital image processing technique was applied to investigate the evolution of desiccation crack network in the compacted clayey soil, which revealed the strong dependence of geometrical parameters on water loss through evaporation.

Fluid Conductivity Testing of Fine‐Grained Soils

TL;DR: In this article, the state of practice in laboratory measurements of hydraulic conductivity of soils was reviewed and found to be extremely variable, with the result that measurements on a given soil material often give variations of several orders of magnitude.
