Prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension in China: data from 1·7 million adults in a population-based screening study (China PEACE Million Persons Project)
Jiapeng Lu,Yuan Lu,Xiaochen Wang,Xinyue Li,George C. Linderman,Chaoqun Wu,Xiuyuan Cheng,Lin Mu,Haibo Zhang,Jiamin Liu,Meng Su,Hongyu Zhao,Erica S. Spatz,John A. Spertus,Frederick A. Masoudi,Harlan M. Krumholz,Lixin Jiang +16 more
TL;DR: A study of the prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension in China and assessed their variations across many subpopulations, finding that among Chinese adults aged 35-75 years, nearly half have hypertension, fewer than a third are being treated, and fewer than one in twelve are in control of their blood pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD): executive summary from a Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) Controversies Conference
Arlene B. Chapman,Olivier Devuyst,Kai-Uwe Eckardt,Ron T. Gansevoort,Tess Harris,Shigeo Horie,Bertram L. Kasiske,Dwight Odland,York Pei,Ronald D. Perrone,Yves Pirson,Robert W. Schrier,Roser Torra,Vicente E. Torres,Terry Watnick,David C. Wheeler +15 more
TL;DR: This review summarized areas of consensus, gaps in knowledge, and research and health-care priorities related to diagnosis; monitoring of kidney disease progression; management of hypertension, renal function decline and complications; end-stage renal disease; extrarenal complications; and practical integrated patient support that are summarized in this review.
Journal ArticleDOI
Blood Pressure in Early Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease
Robert W. Schrier,Robert W. Schrier,Kaleab Z. Abebe,Ronald D. Perrone,Vicente E. Torres,William E. Braun,Theodore I. Steinman,Franz T. Winklhofer,Godela Brosnahan,Peter G. Czarnecki,Marie C. Hogan,Dana C. Miskulin,Frederic F. Rahbari-Oskoui,Jared J. Grantham,Peter C. Harris,Michael F. Flessner,Kyongtae T. Bae,Charity G. Moore,Arlene B. Chapman +18 more
TL;DR: In early ADPKD, the combination of lisinopril and telmisartan did not significantly alter the rate of increase in total kidney volume and rigorous blood-pressure control was associated with a slower increase inTotal kidney volume, no overall change in the estimated GFR, a greater decline in the left-ventricular-mass index, and greater reduction in urinary albumin excretion.
Journal ArticleDOI
Primary prevention of cardiovascular disease: A review of contemporary guidance and literature:
TL;DR: Previously fashionable ideas such as the polypill appear devoid of in-vivo efficacy, but there remain areas of future interest such asThe benefit of serum urate reduction and utility of reduction of homocysteine levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of blood pressure lowering on outcome incidence in hypertension: 4. Effects of various classes of antihypertensive drugs – Overview and meta-analyses
TL;DR: BP lowering by all classes of antihypertensive drugs is accompanied by significant reductions of stroke and major cardiovascular events, which supports the concept that reduction of these events is because of BP lowering per se rather than specific drug properties.
