In this paper, the authors analyzed the financial performances of oil and gas companies using Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method and calculated the ratio of each and every company separately.
Abstract
This paper analyzes the financial performances of oil and gas companiesusing Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method. Financial ratios of the oil and gas companies were calculated for each and every company separately. The computed ratio was transformed to show the performance rankings of oil and gas companies by using entropy and TOPSIS method. Ranking of the companies was done by arranging according to their performance. The time period for assessment of oil and gas companies was from 2011 to 2015 and results show each year’s company performance ranking. The result showed that Hindustan Ltd. has the highest ranking in the year 2011, BPCL for the year 2012, Gail Ltd. for the year 2013, and in the last two years Petronet had the highest ranking. Every year different companies had the lowest ranking.

Inter-company comparison using modified TOPSIS with objective weights

TL;DR: An effective approach based on the concept used by the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) is developed to rank competing companies in terms of their overall performance on multiple financial ratios to ensure that the evaluation result is not affected by the inter-dependency of criteria and inconsistency of subjective weights.

Performance reporting by oil and gas firms: contractual and value implications

TL;DR: For example, the authors found that Canadian oil and gas firms tend to adjust reported earnings and cash flow figures for the potential overstatement that is caused by the use of the full cost method, while only investors in U.S. listed firms appear to take full cost/successful efforts choice fully into account when assigning value multiples to earnings or cash flow.
