Internal structure and contents of three badger (Meles meles) setts

TL;DR: Three badger (Meles meles L.) setts in the south of England, which formed a single sett complex belonging to one social group of badgers, were excavated prior to being destroyed by construction of a new road, concluding that the survival value of very large setts remains problematical.
Journal ArticleDOI

Red kite (Milvus milvus) and black kite (M. migrans): minute genetic interspecies distance of two raptors breeding in a mixed community (Falconiformes: Accipitridae)

TL;DR: Although the genetic distance is slight, the Milvus kites are valid biospecies which, despite occasional instances of hybridization, coexist sympatrically and may breed in mixed breeding aggregations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recycling of Badger/Fox Burrows in Late Pleistocene Loess by Hyenas at the Den Site Bad Wildungen-Biedensteg (NW, Germany): Woolly Rhinoceros Killers and Scavengers in a Mammoth Steppe Environment of Europe

TL;DR: BadBad Wildungen-Biedensteg (Hesse, NW, Germany) represents the first open air loess fox/badger den site in Europe, which must have been recycled by Crocuta crocuta spelaea (Goldfuss, 1823) as a birthing den.
Journal ArticleDOI

Conservation of the Red Kite Milvus milvus (Aves: Accipitriformes) Is Not Affected by the Establishment of a Broad Hybrid Zone with the Black Kite Milvus migrans migrans in Central Europe.

TL;DR: It was found that populations of both examined species were characterized by a high gene flow within populations, with all of the major haplotypes distributed across the entire examined area, and few haplotypes displayed statistically significant aggregation in one region over another.
