TLDR
The results are interpreted as being evidence for the genetic control of adult-life span as a function of the total developmental pattern of the organism.

Murine chromosomal regions correlated with longevity.

TL;DR: In this paper, a study of 360 BXD recombinant inbred female mice (20 different strains) was conducted, where the authors found that 2 strains had significantly shorter survival and 1 strain had very significantly longer survival than the other 17 strains; 4 other strains had less significant lengthening of survival compared to the other 13 strains in a proportional hazards model of survival.

Murine Chromosomal Regions Correlated With Longevity

TL;DR: In this longevity analysis of 360 BXD recombinant inbred female mice, 2 strains had very significantly shorter survival and 1 strain had very significant longer survival than the other 17 strains; 4 other strains had less significant lengthening of survival compared to the other 13 strains in a proportional hazards model of survival.

Drugs that modulate aging: the promising yet difficult path ahead

TL;DR: The strategies to translate discoveries from aging research into drugs are discussed, which could lead to novel therapies toward chronic disease, prevention of disease or be targeted directly at extending lifespan.
Journal ArticleDOI

On the immortality of the germ line: Genetic and biochemical mechanisms. A review

TL;DR: Evidence on ageing of reproductive cells and the relationship of cytomorphogenetic events to periodic rejuvenation of germ cell lines is summarized and evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI

A mutation in Drosophila that appears to accelerate aging

TL;DR: It appears that this mutation, adl-16tsl, may accelerate the normal aging process when placed at 29°C, and the potential utility of these types of mutants for studying the aging process is discussed.

Experimental Studies on the Duration of Life. VIII. The Influence Upon Duration of Life of Certain Mutant Genes of Drosophila melanogaster

TL;DR: There was a marked difference in the duration of life and in the form of the lx curve in wild type stocks of Drosophila and a synthetic quintuple mutation stock and this difference was hereditary and Mendelian.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental Studies on the Duration of Life. II. Hereditary Differences in Duration of Life in Line-Bred Strains of Drosophila

TL;DR: It is shown that there was a marked difference in mean duration of life between wild-type stocks of Drosophila on the one hand and the syntheuic quintuple mutation stock on the other hand, and there could be no doubt that the basis of this difference must be hereditary and not environmental.
