In this paper, the effects of resin application methods, resin content, hot-pressing temperature, and pressure in hot pressing poplar laminated veneer lumber (LVL) were investigated.
Abstract
Better understanding of heat transfer and resin curing during hot pressing will help optimize the wood composite manufacturing process in increasing productivity and improving product quality.Electrical-thermocouples were used in this study to investigate the effects of resin application methods, resin content,hot-pressing temperature, and pressure in hot-pressing poplar laminated veneer lumber(LVL).The results indicated that during the initial pressing stage, the internal temperature increased more rapidly by using a resin impregnation method than a resin spread method. It was found that higher resin content accelerated heat penetration towards the core. However, the resin content didn't significantly affect total hot-pressing time.
