In this paper, the authors proposed a system that provides means for illuminating an object with radiation as well as spatially coding the illuminating radiation or emitted radiation, to provide a composite image representing the summation of the shadows from all points of the source of illumination.Abstract:
An imaging system suitable for use with high energy nuclear particles or photons such as gamma radiation and X-radiation. The system provides means for illuminating an object with radiation as well as spatially coding the illuminating radiation or emitted radiation if the object is self-luminous, to provide a composite image representing the summation of the shadows from all points of the source of illumination. Spatial modulation is accomplished by a mask having a coded pattern of transparent and opaque regions linearly scanned in time. The resulting signal has the characteristics of a chirp waveform typical of pulse compression radars. The composite image is readily decoded by a delay line having a phase or delay characteristic complementary to that of the spatial modulation pattern.read more

TL;DR: Computer simulations show that the URA with significant shot and background noise is vastly superior to random array techniques without noise, and permits a detector which is smaller than its random array counterpart.

Coded aperture imaging
TL;DR: In this paper, a coded aperture imaging apparatus and methods for the detection and imaging of radiation which results from nuclear interrogation of a target object is presented. But the method is not suitable for the handling of large objects.

Method and apparatus for localization and spectroscopy of objects using optical frequency modulation of diffusion waves
TL;DR: An apparatus and method for using frequency modulated diffusive photon density waves propagating through a turbid medium such as tissue for detecting optical properties of objects and for imaging objects within the turbidity medium is described in this article.

TL;DR: In this article, a gamma-ray source distribution in the body is imaged onto a detector using an array of apertures, and the transmission of each aperture is modulated using a code such that the individual views of the source through each aperture can be decoded and separated.

Positron camera with multiplane focusing
TL;DR: In this paper, a positron radiation detector is used to obtain an image of the distribution of radioactivity at several different depths in a living subject, each view being focused at a different plane in the subject between the image detector and focal detectors of the camera.
