TLDR
Hewins as mentioned in this paper focused on the need and use studies of the literature in: medical informatics, business, public administration and marketing research, and library and information science, and concluded that group needs and uses should be studied so that systems can be designed to serve the members of the group.
Abstract
Elizabeth T. Hewins concentrates on the need and use studies of the literature in: medical informatics, business, public administration and marketing research, and library and information science. She looks at information-provision mechanisms, user modeling, information value, cognitive processes and interface designs as they relate to use studies. She concludes that group needs and uses should be studied so that systems can be designed to serve the members of the group. She finds that new paradigms and approaches are user centered rather than system centered. Hewins suggests that research must become more interdisciplinary than in the past, that research on user behavior should drive research on systems and interfaces to a greater degree than inthe past, and that the two areas should ultimately be linked to user behavior

On studying information seeking methodologically: the implications of connecting metatheory to method

TL;DR: The purpose I have mandated for this article is to explore the implications of articulating the bridges that are built, usually implicitly, between metatheory and method, and between these and their ultimate interests, the doing of research.

Orienteering in an information landscape: how information seekers get from here to there

TL;DR: The implications of the interconnected search pattern, triggers and stop conditions, common analysis techniques, and intermediary roles for the design of information access systems are discussed.

Information Seeking Research Needs Extension towards Tasks and Technology.

TL;DR: It is shown that information seeking is intimately associated with, and dependent on, other aspects of work; tasks and technology included, which leads to a discussion on design and evaluation frameworks for information seeking and retrieval, based on which two action lines are proposed.

Understanding the information needs of public health practitioners: A literature review to inform design of an interactive digital knowledge management system

TL;DR: There is a critical need for public health digital knowledge management systems designed to reflect the diversity of public health activities, to enable human communications, and to provide multiple access points to critical information resources.
