Torsional frequencies in the far infrared—II: Molecules with two or three methyl rotors

TL;DR: In this article, gas-phase infrared spectra from approximately 80 to 500 cm −1 have been measured for seven compounds containing two or three methyl groups attached to the same atom Bands have been assigned to torsional and low-frequency bending modes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Torsional frequencies in the far infrared—III: The form of the potential curve for hindered internal rotation of a methyl group

TL;DR: In this paper, the transition between excited torsional levels (0 → 1, 1 → 2, 2 → 3,...) have been measured in the infrared for several compounds and the observed frequencies provide the best test of the potential function for hindered internal rotation which has yet been made.

Vibrational assignments for glyoxal, acrolein and butadiene

TL;DR: In this paper, the infrared spectra of glyoxal, acrolein and butadiene have been re-examined and the range of observation has been extended down to 100 cm−1.

The infrared spectrum of carbon suboxide

TL;DR: In this paper, the infrared spectrum of gaseous and solid C 3 O 2 has been examined from 70 to 4000 cm −1, and only traces of impurities were found by gas chromatography.

Infrared Spectroscopy from 5 to 200 Microns with a Small Grating Spectrometer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used doubly passed gratings to remove higher orders from the infrared spectra and achieved a wave-number precision of 0.04-0.05 cm−1 in most spectral regions.

The Infra‐Red and Raman Spectra of Cyclopentane, Cyclopentane‐d1, and Cyclopentane‐d10

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that cyclopentane does not have D5h symmetry and the entropy of the vapor requires a low frequency (near 140 cm−1 for the assignment in this paper) if the symmetry is D5H.

Infrared Absorption Spectra of Chromyl Fluoride and Chromyl Chloride

TL;DR: In this paper, the infrared spectrum of gaseous chromyl fluoride and chromyl chloride has been investigated and the observed transitions have been assigned on the basis of a tetrahedral model of C2v symmetry.
