Abstract
An interpolation frame generating method performs motion detection processing using two blocks having different sizes, and adopts a motion vector detected by a smaller block under normal conditions (Block 104). When a plurality of reliable motion vector candidates are detected in vector detection using the smaller block (YES of Block 103), a vector detected by a larger block is referred to (Block 105), and a motion vector which is closest to the motion vector detected with the larger block among the motion vectors detected with the smaller block is adopted as a motion vector of the block to be used for generating an interpolation frame (Block 106).

Motion vector processing

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe techniques for processing motion vectors such that the resulting motion vectors better correlate with the true motion of a video frame, which may be useful in applications such as motion compensated frame interpolation (MCI), moving object tracking, error concealment, or other video post-processing that requires the real motion information.

Motion estimation with an adaptive search range

TL;DR: In this paper, a method was proposed for estimating motion of a pixel block in a first frame, the method including searching a first area in a second frame to identify a first matching block that corresponds to the pixel block, the first matching blocks including a first error value that is a minimum of at least one error criteria between the pixel blocks and the matching blocks, calculating a second motion vector associated with the second matching blocks and selecting a final motion vector between the first and second motion vectors based on the first.
