Abstract
The fertility of common toad Bufo bufo on the territory of Kaluga region is reported. The maximum fertility is 6450 eggs, the minimum one is 242 eggs, the average one is 2238 ± 1135. As the body length of common toad increases, the number and diameter of the eggs increases too. Reproductive effort increases with the growth of individuals of common toad, reaching the maximum at 90.7 mm, and then begins to decline.

Molecular phylogenetics and historical biogeography of the west-palearctic common toads (Bufo bufo species complex)

TL;DR: The distribution models show that Eastern and Western species complexes are greatly isolated by the Central Asian Deserts, and the dating estimates place this divergence during the Middle Miocene, a moment in which different sources of evidence document a major upturn of the aridification rate of Central Asia.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mitochondrial Costs of Being Hot: Effects of Acute Thermal Change on Liver Bioenergetics in Toads (Bufo bufo).

TL;DR: The results suggest that B. bufo may need to allocate extra energy to maintain ATP production and protect cells from oxidative stress, reducing the energy allocable performances.
Journal ArticleDOI

From a local observation to a European-wide phenomenon: Amphibian deformities at Serra da Estrela Natural Park, Portugal

TL;DR: The first cases of amphibian deformities for North-Central Portugal are reported, put in context with a review comprising European records since the 18th century, and the presence of deformities in three different species points toward environmental causes, with predation as the most parsimonious explanation.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Late Pleistocene faunal assemblage from Cava Muracci (Latium, Italy): Palaeoenvironmental implications for coastal central Italy during MIS 3

TL;DR: The first multi-disciplinary palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of coastal Latium between 34-44 ka BP is provided combining palaeoecological inferences from a previous pollen analytical study of hyena coprolites with the palaeontological study described here as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pequeños vertebrados del relleno kárstico del Pleistoceno Superior de Avetrana (Apulia, Sur de Italia)

TL;DR: The data on small and large vertebrates indicate an age between the beginning of the Late Pleistocene (MIS 5e) and the central part of MIS 3, which is likely to have been deposited during a cooler period when compared to the previous layers.
