An evaluation of antioxidants for vegetable oils at elevated temperatures

R. Becker, +1 more
- 01 Jan 1996 -
TL;DR: The antioxidant efficacy of various oxidation inhibitors in low erucic acid rapeseed oil has been studied in a screening test at 130°C by an induction period method as discussed by the authors, and the results showed that these additives were distinctly superior to commercially recommended formulations.

Mechanistic aspects of polymer photostabilization

TL;DR: A short account of modern theories in polymer degradation under oxidative conditions is followed by a detailed description of the different mechanistic aspects of polymer photostabilization as mentioned in this paper, which concentrates on the compounds presently known as photoantioxidants, which are believed to be the most efficient inhibitors of polymer photo-oxidation.

Mechanisms of antioxidant action and stabilisation technology—The Aston experience

TL;DR: In this paper, the application of mechanistic knowledge of antioxidant action to address some of the problems of green issues and health hazards are exemplified in the discussion of time-controlled stabilisation, bound antioxidants and polymer modification by reactive processing.

Antioxidation synergism between ZnDTC and ZnDTP in mineral oil

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the antioxidation synergistic effects between ZnDTC and Zn-DDP in a mineral base oil and found that there is strong antoxidation synergism between the two additives.

Mechanisms of antioxidant action: The role of mercaptobenzthiazole and its derivatives as antioxidants

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared MBT and its zinc complex (ZMBT) as antioxidants for paraffin oil at 140° and found that MBT is superior to ZMBT both as a hydroperoxide decomposer and as a chain-breaking antioxidant.

Mechanisms of antioxidant action: Intermediates involved in the formation of sulphur acids from nickel dialkyl dithiophosphates

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the oxidation of nickel dibutyl dithiophosphate by cumene hydroperoxide involves the formation of unstable sulphur acids which break down to give ionic catalysts for the decomposition of hydroperoxides.

The Chemistry of Thiazoles and Dithiocarbamates as Antioxidants

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that dithiocarbamates react with hydroperoxides to form a new oxidized intermediate which in most cases is stable, and these compounds further decompose into a thiuram monosulfide and metal sulfate.
