Modelling and representing: An artefactual approach to model-based representation
TLDR
This article argued that the traditional representational approach is too limiting as regards the epistemic value of modelling given the focus on the relationship between a single model and its supposed target system, and the neglect of the actual representational means with which scientists construct models.About:

Deep Neural Networks as Scientific Models
TL;DR: It is claimed that beyond their power to provide predictions and explanations of cognitive phenomena, DNNs have the potential to contribute to an often overlooked but ubiquitous and fundamental use of scientific models: exploration.

`Models of' versus `Models for'. Toward an Agent-Based Conception of Modeling in the Science Classroom
Julia Gouvea,Cynthia Passmore +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an agent-based account of models is presented, where models can only be understood with respect to the aims and intentions of a cognitive agent (models for), not solely in terms of how they represent phenomena in the world.

How do models give us knowledge? The case of Carnot’s ideal heat engine
Tarja Knuuttila,Mieke Boon +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that if we are to understand how models function in actual scientific practice, the representational approach to models proves either misleading or too minimal, depending on how representation is defined.

Models and Representation
Roman Frigg,James Nguyen +1 more
TL;DR: This chapter disentangle five separate questions associated with scientific representation and offers five conditions of adequacy that any successful answer to these questions must meet.
Outline for a Morphology of Modelling Methods Contribution to a General Theory of Modelling
TL;DR: On the basis of this meta-model, requirements for the successful application of different modelling methods - for the study of given systems or objects of scientific enquiry - can be examined.

Being There: Putting Brain, Body, and World Together Again
TL;DR: Clark as mentioned in this paper argues that the mental has been treated as a realm that is distinct from the body and the world, and argues that a key to understanding brains is to see them as controllers of embodied activity.
