Abstract
A study was made of the emission spectra of a cooled single-mode homojunction laser used in scanning interferometers under conditions when a sinusoidal component of frequency ƒm up to 1.2 GHz was superimposed on a constant injection current. It was found that a strong frequency modulation could be achieved for a fairly small depth of amplitude modulation amounting to M ≲ 10%. The frequency modulation coefficient Kfm was within the range 0.1–0.8 GHz/mA, depending on the degree of excess above the threshold and on the frequency ƒm. The physical mechanisms governing the dependence Kfm(ƒm) were analyzed.

Tuning characteristics of an injection laser with a short external dispersive resonator

TL;DR: In this article, the authors attributed the dependence of the refractive index on the electron density to the length of an external resonator, which resulted in continuous tuning of the emission frequency in a range of 60 GHz.

Optical signal with high-frequency amplitude beats formed in a frequency-modulated injection laser and an interferometer

TL;DR: In this article, a generator of an optical signal with amplitude beats tunable within the frequency range 0.1-6.0 GHz was constructed on the basis of a homodyne system containing a single-frequency injection laser frequency-modulated by a regular sequence of rectangular current pulses and a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with an optical difference between the arms ensuring a delay of the modulating signal by half a period.

Frequency modulation of a semiconductor laser by injection current

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the frequency dependence of the efficiency of the modulation of a continuous-wave GaAs laser by varying the injection current and found that this efficiency decreased by a factor of 30 when the modulation frequency was increased from 5 to 200 kHz.
