Abstract

Surface Waves

TL;DR: In this paper, the evanescent field structure over the wave front, as represented by equiphase planes, is identified as one of the most important and easily recognizable forms of surface wave.
Book ChapterDOI

Interaction of Water Waves and Currents

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the varied physical circumstances in which interactions among water waves and currents occur and different mathematical approaches, relevant observations, and experiments that are applicable to all or some of these physical circumstances are described.

A statistical analysis of the generation of microseisms

TL;DR: In this article, an alternative approach based on spectral transfer functions and the local energy-balance equation of the seismic field is proposed, which enables a rigorous analysis of the statistical aspects of the problem, which could be treated only approximately and under restrictive conditions in terms of the far-field representations used previously.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Role of Surface-Wave Breaking in Air-Sea Interaction

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a model to predict the occurrence and dynamics of breaking, which is a major impediment to the development of better wind-wave and mixed-layer models, and showed that modern acoustic and electromagnetic oceanographic instrumentation should lead to significantly improved measurements of breaking in the near future.

A prediction model for stationary, short-crested waves in shallow water with ambient currents

TL;DR: In this article, a numerical model for hindcasting of short-crested waves in shallow-water is described and comparisons are made between observations and model results in a realistic field situation.
