Nonlinear sliding-mode control of a multi-motor web-winding system without tension sensor

TLDR
In this article, a sliding-mode feedback linearisation control system is designed for a multi-motor web-winding system, which consists of an SM velocity controller and two SM tension controllers; a decentralised version of the proposed controller is developed.
Abstract
A sliding-mode (SM) feedback linearisation control system is designed for a multi-motor web-winding system. First, an ideal feedback linearisation control system is adopted in order to decouple the tensions and velocity of the web-winding system; then to enhance the performance of the control system in the presence of uncertainties, an SM feedback linearisation control system is applied, which consists of an SM velocity controller and two SM tension controllers; a decentralised version of the proposed controller is developed. Two tension observers are suggested to eliminate the need of load cells in a web-winding system. Finally, the effectiveness and capability of the proposed control strategy is verified by computer simulation.

Fixed-Order $H_{\infty}$ Tension Control in the Unwinding Section of a Web Handling System Using a Pendulum Dancer

TL;DR: These are the first published results of successful application of an H∞ controller to a real plant containing a pendulum dancer, and the performance of the proposed controllers is demonstrated by carrying out experiments on a large experimental web handling platform containing four drivenRollers, many idle rollers, and a PD in the unwind section.

Improved relative coupling control structure for multi-motor speed synchronous driving system

TL;DR: In this paper, an improved relative coupling control structure for multi-motor speed synchronous driving system is presented, which introduces an additional speed controller so that all the motors in the system can be treated as an entity.

Sliding mode control in electromechanical systems

TL;DR: Sliding mode control (SMC) is gaining increasing importance as a universal design tool for the robust control of linear and nonlinear systems as mentioned in this paper, and is particularly useful for electro-mechanical systems because of its discontinuous structure.

Integral sliding mode in systems operating under uncertainty conditions

TL;DR: The paper generalized a new sliding mode design concept, namely integral sliding mode (ISM), and removes the discontinuous control action from the real control path and inserts it to an internal dynamic process for generating the sliding mode to alleviate chattering.

Modeling and robust control of winding systems for elastic webs

TL;DR: The objective is to control a web transport system with winder and unwinder for elastic material and an H/sub /spl infin// robust control strategy with varying gains is shown to render the control more robust to the radius variations.
