TLDR
D-IC-PCR using BSMYV specific primers and Musa specific internal primers was found to be most reliable procedure which can be used for routine indexing of tissue culture plantlets at different stages in the test labs as well as for germplasm exchange at quarantine stations.

Subpopulation level variation of banana streak viruses in India and common evolution of banana and sugarcane badnaviruses.

TL;DR: The hypothesis of relatedness of banana and sugarcane badnaviruses and the host and geographical shifts that followed the fixation of the species complex appear to be a recent event is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment and optimization of rolling circle amplification protocols for the detection and characterization of badnaviruses

TL;DR: In this article, the authors have assessed and optimized various RCA protocols including random-primed RCA (RP-RCA), primer-spiked RCA, specific-specific RCA and directed RCA to detect a range of badnavirus infecting banana, sugar cane, taro and yam.

Overview of yield losses due to plant viruses

TL;DR: An overview of severe virus-associated plant diseases and their impact on crop production and yield losses is given and efficient management of insect vectors and alternative susceptible hosts is given.

Recent advances of virus diagnostics in horticultural crops

TL;DR: Recombinase polymerase amplification is a novel and rapid method for amplification of nucleic acids in limited resource/laboratory settings, and this is discussed in detail.

Viruses Infecting Trees and Herbs That Produce Edible Fleshy Fruits with a Prominent Value in the Global Market: An Evolutionary Perspective

TL;DR: The overall picture of the host range for some virus families following an evolutionary approach is shown, and the most promising strategies employed to control viral diseases in the field are presented, focusing on solutions that are long-lasting.

Rolling circle amplification revolutionizes diagnosis and genomics of geminiviruses.

TL;DR: The results show the efficiency of this technique in characterizing viral DNA components of several geminiviruses from experimental and natural host plant sources and will considerably accelerate genomics of at least gemini-, nano- and circoviruses in the future.

RAPID COMMUNICATION Integration of Banana Streak Badnavirus into the Musa Genome: Molecular and Cytogenetic Evidence

TL;DR: This is the first report of integrated sequences that possibly lead to a plant pararetrovirus episomal infection by a mechanism differing markedly from animal retroviral systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Integration of banana streak badnavirus into the Musa genome: molecular and cytogenetic evidence.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reported integrated sequences that possibly lead to a plant pararetrovirus episomal infection by a mechanism differing markedly from animal retroviral systems, by probing stretched DNA fibers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Viral sequences integrated into plant genomes.

TL;DR: Sequences of various DNA plant viruses have been found integrated into the host genome and it appears that integration of viral sequences is widespread in the plant kingdom and has been occurring for a long period of time.

Genetic diversity among Banana streak virus isolates from Australia

TL;DR: Phylogenetic analyses using conserved sequences in the ribonuclease H domain revealed that all BSV isolates were more closely related to each other than to any other badnavirus.
