TLDR
This paper examined the impact of current changes on welfare values in the various types of European welfare states (including accession states), using international attitude survey data, and found that most citizens remain committed to mild egalitarianism.

The Puzzling Lack of a Social Dilemma

TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that social dilemma research turns a blind eye to the fact that public opinion in general as well as key groups appears to be able to yield its support even when welfare states contain distinctly selective elements and low-compensation universal programs.
