A technique for automatic, transparent, distributed, scalable and robust replication of document copies in a computer network wherein request messages for a particular document follow paths from the clients to a home server that form a routing graph. Client request messages are routed up the graph towards the home server as would normally occur in the absence of caching. However, cache servers are located along the route, and may intercept requests if they can be serviced. In order to be able to service requests in this manner without departing from standard network protocols, the cache server needs to be able to insert a packet filter into the router associated with it, and needs also to proxy for the home server from the perspective of the client. Cache servers cooperate to update cache content by communicating with neighboring caches whenever information is received about invalid cache copies.read more

Systems and Methods for Providing Dynamic Network Authorization, Authentication and Accounting
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a method and system for selectably controlling and customizing source access to a network, where the source is associated with a source computer, and wherein the source computer has transparent access to the network via a gateway device.

Peer-to-peer group management and method for maintaining peer-to-peer graphs
TL;DR: A system and method of serverless peer-to-peer group management and maintenance is presented in this article, where the utility of connections within the graph are also monitored so that non-productive connections may be dropped to increase the efficiency of the group.

Method and system for providing secure access to private networks with client redirection
TL;DR: In this paper, improved approaches for providing secure access to resources maintained on private networks are disclosed, and the secure access can be provided through a public network using client software of client-server software and/or with file system software.
Patent
Systems and methods for providing content and services on a network system
TL;DR: In this paper, the location-based determination of network content and services that may be provided to client computers is discussed, as well as authorization and authentication components that determine access rights of client computers.

TL;DR: In this article, a client assistant examines its cache for the requested document, and if the client assistant cannot provide the copy, the server seeks it from a document repository rather than the document's web host.

A method and system for distributed caching, prefetching and replication
TL;DR: In this paper, a technique for automatic, transparent, distributed, scalable and robust caching, prefetching, and replication in a computer network that request messages for a particular document follow paths from the clients to a home server that form a routing graph.
Patent
A system and method for using cached data at a local node after re-opening a file at a remote node in a distributed networking environment
TL;DR: In this paper, the client cache data blocks are tested for validity in the client processing system by using modification times as measured by the server processing system, and if the cache data block are determined to be valid, the data blocks were discarded, and the file is accessed from the server system.

Locating resources in computer networks having cache server nodes
Ray William Boyles,Michael Francis Gierlach,Prabandham Madan Gopal,Robert Sultan,Gary Michael Vacek +4 more
TL;DR: Cache server nodes play a key role in the LOCATE process and can prevent redundant network-wide broadcasts of LOCATE requests as mentioned in this paper, where an origin cache server receives a request from a served node, the cache server node searches its local directories first, then forwards the request to alternate cache server nodes if necessary.
Patent
Inter-cache protocol for improved web performance
TL;DR: In this paper, information about the contents of the neighbor caches is exchanged between these caches so that when a request for an object is received, the object can be retrieved from the cache in which it is stored.
