Range estimation in radar using maximum likelihood estimator

TLDR
In this paper, the authors derived the Maximum Likelihood Estimator (MLE) for range estimation using static radar using round trip delay time and calculated the Cramer Rao Lower Bound (CRLB).
Abstract
RADAR technology is getting significance place in estimation and detection of short and long range targets. One of the important estimation parameter is radar delay time. In this paper, Maximum Likelihood Estimator (MLE) for range estimation using static radar is derived. Range of radar is estimated by estimating the round trip delay time. Delay is observed from the active transmitted pulse of radar. In addition, the Cramer Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) for range is also calculated. Simulation of MLE is performed. Monte Carlo simulations are also done to show that MLE achieves the CRLB at high signal to noise ratio.

The generalized correlation method for estimation of time delay

TL;DR: In this paper, a maximum likelihood estimator is developed for determining time delay between signals received at two spatially separated sensors in the presence of uncorrelated noise, where the role of the prefilters is to accentuate the signal passed to the correlator at frequencies for which the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio is highest and suppress the noise power.

Characterisation of radar clutter as a spherically invariant random process

TL;DR: In this article, a statistical characterisation of clutter as a complex random process is needed in the design of optimum detection schemes, and the model is modeled as a spherically invariant random process (SIRP), assuming that its PDFs can be expressed as non-negative definite quadratic forms, a generalisation of a Gaussian process.
