TLDR
The present case, together with the recurrences reported by Thoma 5 and Huebsch and Stephenson, 6 represents a significant number and re-evaluation of methods of diagnosis and treatment will be needed.About:

Journal ArticleDOI
Mixed odontogenic tumours and odontomas. Considerations on interrelationship. Review of the literature and presentation of 134 new cases of odontomas
TL;DR: The authors suggest that the compound odontomas should be considered not as an alternative final stage to the complex odontoma but rather as a malformation pathogenetically closely related to the process producing hyperodontia, "multiple schizodontiania" or locally conditioned hyperactivity of the dental lamina.
Journal ArticleDOI
An analysis of the interrelationship of the mixed odontogenic tumors—ameloblastic fibroma, ameloblastic fibro-odontoma, and the odontomas
TL;DR: It was noted that the distribution according to site of the ameloblastic fibro-odontoma and complex odontoma was dependent on age, both lesions showing a more posteriorly located site of predilection with increasing age.
Journal ArticleDOI
Malignant transformation of ameloblastic fibro-odontoma to ameloblastic fibrosarcoma
TL;DR: This potential transformation alone does not justify radical treatment of all these benign lesions, but if there is recurrence accompanied by a histologic pattern change toward a more unorganized fibrous stroma with displacement of the epithelial component, then more extensive treatment procedures appear to be indicated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ameloblastic fibroma. A survey of cases from the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology.
TL;DR: Analysis of twenty-four acceptable cases of ameloblastic fibroma from the files of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology suggests that the tumor is somewhat more aggressive and has a higher potential for recurrence than is presently appreciated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ameloblastic fibroma: a review of published studies with special reference to its nature and biological behavior.
TL;DR: Data support the view that majority of AFs are true neoplasms and age of the patients should be an important consideration when choosing therapeutic methods and radical surgery should not be employed for the treatment ofAFs in young people.

Recurrent ameloblastic fibroma in a 3-year-old boy.
TL;DR: Treatment of choice in an early, operable ameloblastic tumor of the jaws appears to be marginal resection and removal of an adequate margin of clinically sound bone, maintenance of bony continuity if possible, and avoidance of radical disfiguring surgical procedures present humane treatment consistent with minimal chance of recurrence.
