TLDR
Field trials conducted at commercial broiler farms in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Agency showed that alum additions to poultry litter lowered litter pH, particularly during the first 3 to 4 wk of each growout, which resulted in less NH3 volatilization and lower atmospheric NH3.

Drinking Water Treatment Residuals: A Review of Recent Uses

TL;DR: Research has focused on using WTR as cost-effective materials to reduce soluble phosphorus (P) in soils, runoff, and land-applied organic wastes (manures and biosolids) as well as potential use of WTR in environmental remediation.

Atmospheric Ammonia is Detrimental to the Performance of Modern Commercial Broilers

TL;DR: Statistical analysis of the results provided a simple equation for predicting the decline in BW of male broilers after exposure to ammonia, and the relative quantified effects of ammonia exposure were similar.

Acidification of animal slurry--a review.

TL;DR: A compilation and critical review of all studies has been performed in order to fully understand the global impact of slurry acidification and assess the applicability of this treatment for slurry management.

Influence of water treatment residuals on phosphorus solubility and leaching.

TL;DR: The phosphorus saturation index (PSI) based on a simple oxalate extraction of the WTR and biosolids is potentially useful for determining WTR application rates for controlled reduction of P in drainage when biosolid are applied to low P-sorbing soils.

Aluminium toxicosis: a review of toxic actions and effects

TL;DR: A broad overview of Al toxicosis is provided as a background for sustained investigations of the toxicology of Al compounds of public health importance.

Relating Extractable Soil Phosphorus to Phosphorus Losses in Runoff

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated which soil test P (STP) extraction method would be best for predicting dissolved reactive P (DRP) and bioavailable P (BAP) in runoff, depending on the extraction method.

Soil acidification from atmospheric ammonium sulphate in forest canopy throughfall

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the occurrence of high concentrations of ammonium in canopy throughfall and stemflow in woodland areas in the Netherlands, resulting in acid inputs to soils two to five times higher than those previously described for acid atmospheric deposition.
