Abstract
A textbook prepared primarily for use in introductory courses in remote sensing is presented. Topics covered include concepts and foundations of remote sensing; elements of photographic systems; introduction to airphoto interpretation; airphoto interpretation for terrain evaluation; photogrammetry; radiometric characteristics of aerial photographs; aerial thermography; multispectral scanning and spectral pattern recognition; microwave sensing; and remote sensing from space.

Remote sensing as a tool for monitoring plasticulture in agricultural landscapes

TL;DR: In this paper, the spectral properties of polyethylene sheets and various nets used in covered agriculture (plasticulture) all around the world were studied using a field spectrometer, and the best spectral feature for plastic mapping was found to be that around 1732nm as it does not coincide with spectral features of other minerals, soils, vegetation or atmospheric attenuation.

Effect of rice cultivation patterns on malaria vector abundance in rice-growing villages in mali

TL;DR: Estimating rice in a 900-meter buffer area around the villages resulted in the best correlation with mosquito abundance, larger buffer areas were optimum in the October and dry season models, and the quantification of the relationship between An.

Relationships between remotely sensed surface parameters associated with the urban heat sink formation in Santiago, Chile

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the relationship that surface temperature exhibits with land cover types, as well as with vegetation cover fraction, surface moisture and albedo of Santiago City and its rural surroundings.

Adverse impacts of pasture abandonment in Himalayan protected areas: Testing the efficiency of a Natural Resource Management Plan (NRMP)

TL;DR: In this paper, an integrated approach to study the impact of NRMP in the Himalayas of India has been applied by using satellite data and Geographic Information System (GIS) to develop a land cover map of the area and to note changes in the landscape over time after NRMP.

Evidence of recent treeline dynamics in southwest Yukon from aerial photographs

Ryan K. Danby, +1 more
- 09 Dec 2009 -
TL;DR: In this article, small-scale vertical aerial photographs taken in 1947 and 1948 covering 200 km2 of the Kluane Ranges, southwest Yukon, were compared with corresponding photos taken in 1989 for the purpose of characterizing changes in the distribution and abundance of white spruce at the alpine treeline.
