Biodiversity and Ecosystem Function in the Mediterranean Basin: Human and Non-Human Determinants
Jacques Blondel,James Aronson +1 more
TL;DR: The rapid loss of genetic diversity is of great concern to most modern societies as mentioned in this paper, and this depletion is occurring at several scales, ranging from gene assemblages in local populations to complex communities, ecosystems and landscapes.

Biomanipulation: the next phase — making it stable
TL;DR: It is proposed that the problem of perpetuation of successful results remains unsolved and may be resolved through use of a refuge or refuges from among the following: low light intensity refuge; low temperature Refuge; low dissolved oxygen refuge; physical concealment refuge; visual clutter refuge; behavior modification refuge; and predator inefficiency refuge.
Journal ArticleDOI
Periodic and Steady-State Mode Interactions Lead to Tori
TL;DR: In this article, a first order system of ordinary differential equations containing two real parameters may have a simple bifurcation of steady states and a Hopf bifurbcation of periodic solutions existing at nearby points of parameter space.
Journal ArticleDOI
Habitat complexity facilitates coexistence in a tropical ant community
TL;DR: The results support the hypothesis that differential habitat use according to body size provides a mechanism for coexistence with the yellow crazy ant in Tokelau and suggest that the size-grain hypothesis may provide a mechanism in other ant communities but also in communities of other terrestrial, walking insects that inhabit a complex landscape.

Topological properties of food webs: from real data to community assembly models
José M. Montoya,Ricard V. Solé +1 more
TL;DR: A device to lower bulk material from a supply level down to a discharge conveyor which device will avoid free falls of material when in operation such as would damage the material.
