Structural Effects in Electrocatalysis.

TLDR
In this article, the authors considered the superlattice structures of foreign metal adatoms in explaining the coverage effect on the kinetics of the HCOOH oxidation and showed that at high overpotential a four-electron reduction is observed with all three planes covered with thallium adatsoms.

Surface science studies of model fuel cell electrocatalysts

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss progress in the understanding of electrocatalytic reactions through the study of model systems with surface spectroscopies and discuss the limitations of using pure metal single crystals and well-characterized bulk alloys as models for real catalysts.
Journal ArticleDOI

The oxidation of small organic molecules: A survey of recent fuel cell related research

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of recent electrochemical literature concerning the oxidation of small organic molecules as potential fuels for fuel cells is presented, and the nature of poisoning species and reaction intermediates are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reactivity of the Gold/Water Interface During Selective Oxidation Catalysis

TL;DR: Study of the mechanism of ethanol and glycerol oxidation to acids over various supported gold and platinum catalysts finds that oxygen atoms originating from hydroxide ions instead of molecular oxygen are incorporated into the alcohol during the oxidation reaction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recent Development of Active Nanoparticle Catalysts for Fuel Cell Reactions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focus on the recent advances in the synthesis of nanoparticle (NP) catalysts of Pt-, Pd-and Au-based NPs as well as composite NPs.

The enzyme electrode.

TL;DR: The enzyme electrode is a miniature chemical transducer which functions by combining an electrochemical procedure with immobilized enzyme activity to measure the concentration of glucose in biological solutions and in the tissues in vitro.

The oxidation of formic acid at noble metal electrodes Part III. Intermediates and mechanism on platinum electrodes

TL;DR: In this paper, the charge required to oxidize the strongly bound intermediate on Pt electrodes in 1 M H2SO4 is determined from sweep measurements extrapolated to infinite speed, and from the oxidation of the intermediate in the absence of bulk reaction using a dipping technique.
Journal ArticleDOI

Low energy electron diffraction studies of high index crystal surfaces of platinum

TL;DR: The presence of ordered atomic steps may be considered as a general structural property of high index surfaces regardless of the chemical bonding in the crystal as mentioned in this paper, and a nomenclature is suggested to identify the surface structures of stepped surfaces.
