Abstract
A system and method for communicating information signals using spread spectrum communication techniques. PN sequences are constructed that provide orthogonality between the users so that mutual interference will be reduced, allowing higher capacity and better link performance. With orthogonal PN codes, the cross-correlation is zero over a predetermined time interval, resulting in no interference between the orthogonal codes, provided only that the code time frames are time aligned with each other. In an exemplary embodiment, signals are communicated between a cell-site and mobile units using direct sequence spread spectrum communication signals. In the cell-to-mobile link, pilot, sync, paging and voice channels are defined. Information communicated on the cell-to-mobile link channels are, in general, encoded, interleaved, bi-phase shift key (BPSK) modulated with orthogonal covering of each BPSK symbol along with quadrature phase shift key (QPSK) spreading of the covered symbols. In the mobile-to-cell link, access and voice channels are defined. Information communicated on the mobile-to-cell link channels are, in general, encoded, interleaved, orthogonal signaling along with QPSK spreading.

Enhanced channel interleaving for optimized data throughput

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a transmission scheme where multi-slot packet transmissions to a remote station can be terminated by an acknowledgment signal from the remote station, where code symbols can be efficiently packed over the multislot packet so that the remote node can easily decode the data payload of the multi slot packet by decoding only a portion of the multiscale packet.

IS-95 compatible wideband communication scheme

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a multi-band modulated signal for wideband data streams that are compatible with signals generated in accordance with the IS-95 telecommunications standard, which increases both the user and data-rate capacities of an IS95 network without requiring any additional carrier frequencies or code sequences beyond those already supported by the standard.

Null deepening for an adaptive antenna based communication station

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus is described for modifying a smart antenna processing strategy determined from a set of signals received at an array of antenna elements of a wireless station, such as the set of weights used for processing received antenna signals or forming of antenna signals for transmission.

Distributed digital antenna system

TL;DR: In this article, an optical medium, such as fiber, is tapped to provide an antenna port (135, 136, 137, 138) wherever radio service coverage is desired, and each antenna port is a bi-directional remote unit (105, 106, 107, 108) that receives a digital optical signal from a host unit (101) and transforms the signal to a radio frequency signal for transmission by the remote unit.

Nonlinear estimation of PSK-modulated carrier phase with application to burst digital transmission

TL;DR: A class of nonlinear estimation algorithms is described to estimate the unknown phase of a carrier which is fully modulated by m -ary PSK modulation, and the effect of quantization and finite read-only-memory implementation of the nonlinearity are determined by computer simulation.
